An Estonian 2 euro commemorative coin was dedicated to Paul Keres on the occasion of his 100th birthday on January 7, 2016 .

The list of Estonian chess players contains chess players who are or were eligible to play for the Estonian Chess Federation and who meet at least one of the following conditions:

General

In close chess, 6 grandmasters, 13 international masters, one female grandmaster and 5 international female champions are eligible to play for the Estonian Chess Federation. A grandmaster and a grandmaster of women are no longer eligible to play for the Estonian Chess Federation, two grandmasters, one honorary grandmaster, two international masters, one grandmaster of women and two international champions of women have already passed away.

In correspondence chess, five Estonian players have earned the title of Grand Master, eight that of Merited International Master, eleven that of International Master (including Svetlana Zainetdinova as the only woman ) and two that of Women's Grand Master. Of these, two Merited International Masters and six International Masters have already passed away. Tõnu Õim won both the 9th and 14th World Correspondence Chess Championships.

The Estonian individual championships were played 90 times (including 40 times during the country's independence), the Estonian women's championship 74 times (including 30 times since the country became independent). The record champion is Kaido Külaots with 9 titles, while Estonia was part of the Soviet Union Iivo Nei was the most successful with 8 titles. Salme Rootare won the women's competition most often with 15 titles (all while belonging to the Soviet Union, Monika Tsõganova was the most successful with 9 titles since independence ).

Another five Estonian players had a historic Elo rating of over 2,499 before June 1971.

  • Title (Women, ESSR) : Indicates the number of Estonian individual championships won by women up to 1990.
  • Historical Elo : For players who have neither FIDE nor ICCF titles and have never won an Estonian championship during the country's independence, the highest historical Elo number achieved before July 1971 , provided it is at least 2500.
  • Other associations : For players who were sooner or later eligible to play for at least one other association, this indicates these associations with the periods of eligibility to play (if known). Changes of association as a result of Estonian independence in 1918 and 1991 or the annexation of Estonia in World War II are not listed.
