Christian von Dönhoff

August Christian Ludwig Carl Graf von Dönhoff (born February 12, 1742 in Berlin ; † March 30, 1803 there ) was a Prussian Minister of War .

Life

Christian was a member of the Prussian tribe of the well-known noble family von Dönhoff . He was a son of the Prussian colonel and chamberlain Friedrich Graf von Dönhoff (1708–1769) and his wife Wilhelmine Sophie, née von Kameke (1712–1758), daughter of Paul Anton von Kameke .

Dönhoff had amassed extensive estates in his hand. From his father's inheritance he owned Friedrichstein , Hohenhagen, Löwenhagen , Borchersdorf and Barthen. He sold the latter in 1773, but acquired Weißenstein for it in 1782 . He became a Prussian privy councilor and was ambassador to Stockholm . He later moved to the position of a secret budget councilor and in 1786 became Prussian Minister of War , and finally Obermarschall in the Kingdom of Prussia. Dönhoff was also a legal knight of the Order of St. John . He was also a member of the Freemasons' Association and belonged to the Königsberg lodge "To the three crowns".

Dönhoff married on June 1, 1761 in the castle church in Königsberg with Charlotte Amalie Rollaz du Rosey (born March 8, 1742 in Königsberg; † July 31, 1813 in Friedrichstein), daughter of the Prussian privy councilor, war and domain chamber director Friedrich Melchior Friedrich Philipp Rollaz du Rosey (May 30, 1699 - November 14, 1744), son of Imbert Rollaz du Rosey , and Countess Amalie Juliane von Dönhoff (April 17, 1714 - January 16, 1760), daughter of Bogislaw Friedrich von Dönhoff .
