Lembit Oll

Lembit Oll (born April 23, 1966 in Kohtla-Järve , † May 17, 1999 in Tallinn ) was an Estonian chess player .

Life

Lembit Oll went through the Soviet chess school and had numerous successes as a teenager. In 1982 he became champion of Estonia, in 1984 youth champion of the USSR and represented the Soviet Union at various European and world youth championships. His enormous talent unfolded completely after the collapse of the Soviet empire: in 1989 he won Espoo , Tallinn (zone tournament) and Helsinki . 1990 in Terrassa , 1991 in Sydney and Helsinki, 1992 in Seville , 1993 in Vilnius , The Hague and Antwerp . In 1994 he won the New York Open together with his compatriot Jaan Ehlvest . In 1995 he won in Helsinki and the zone tournament in Riga , 1996 in Saint Petersburg , 1997 in Køge , Hoogeveen (divided) and Szeged (divided). Oll was awarded the title of International Master by FIDE in 1983 and became a Grand Master in 1990 .

Oll was married and the father of two sons. After divorcing his wife, he fell into depression and took 33 years by a fall from his Tallinn apartment on the 4th floor of the living . Oll was Estonia's best player at the time, had an Elo rating of 2630 and was 42nd in the world rankings. He played his last tournament in 1999 in Nova Gorica , where he finished second. He was buried in Tallinn, not far from the grave of Paul Keres . His highest Elo rating was 2650 in July 1998.

With Estonia Oll took part in the Chess Olympiads in 1992 , 1994 , 1996 and 1998 and the 1997 European Team Championship.

In the Dutch Meester class or Hoofd class , Oll played for Volmac Rotterdam , with whom he also took part in the European Club Cup in 1993 . At the European Club Cup, he also represented Honvéd Budapest in 1992 and the Polonia Warsaw team in 1997 and 1998 , with whom he came second in both competitions.
