Jack Shephard (born July 25, 1997 in Chesterfield , Derbyshire , United Kingdom ) is an English badminton player . He starts in Parabadminton in the starting class SH6 in singles, doubles and mixed. Shephard is preparing to participate in the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo .

Athletic career

Jack Shephard started parabadminton at the age of ten. He won the silver medal in mixed competition with his partner Rebecca Bedford at his first international championship, the Badminton World Championship for the disabled in Dortmund in 2013 . In 2014 at the European Badminton Championships for the disabled in Murcia , Shephard won a bronze medal in singles and also bronze in doubles with Krysten Coombs . At the 2015 home World Cup in Stoke Mandeville , he won gold in doubles with Coombs, silver in mixed with Bedford and bronze in singles. The 2016 European Championship in Beek brought Shephard silver with Bedford in mixed and bronze in singles. The doubles were only held as a demonstration competition. At the 2017 World Cup in Ulsan , South Korea , Shephard won the singles title and was defeated by the duo Man Kai Chu and Chun Yim Wong from Hong Kong in the double final with Krysten Coombs . In 2018 at the European Championship in Rodez , Coombs won gold in singles and with Shepard in doubles. The Badminton World Championship for the disabled in Basel in 2019 brought Shephard gold in singles.

Like his twin partner Krysten Coombs, Jack Shephard is aiming to take part in the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo , which will feature Parabadminton competitions for the first time . There is likely only one place available for British athletes in the SH6 class, which Shephard and Coombs will compete for as the two leaders in the world rankings.
