Jacob Fransz de Witt

Jacob (Fransz) de Witt (born January 3, 1548 in Dordrecht ; † December 14, 1621 ibid) was a Dordrecht patrician and regent. He came from the De Witt family .

biography

Jacob was born the son of Frans de Witt (1516–1565) and Liduwi van Beveren , Cornelis Fransz. de Witt was his brother. He entered the Dordrecht government in 1590 as Schepen . Other offices were that of a treasurer (1599-1602) and in the years 1601, 1602, 1615, 1616, 1619 and 1629 as governing mayor. As an envoy from Dordrecht, Jacob was a member of the States General between 1607 and 1613 .

Jacob married Elisabeth Heymans, a sister of Johanna Heymans, the wife of his brother Cornelis. The couple lived in Huis Cruyssenborg . From this marriage there were eight children; including Frans de Witt († 1610), the father of Jacob de Witt († 1653), the governor of the Coromandel Coast .
