Jacod syndrome

The Jacod syndrome is a complex disease with unilateral precipitation of the cranial nerves II-VI in the early stages of malignant tumors in the nasopharynx , which pass through the base of the skull in the direction of orbit grow. The disease belongs to the cavernous sinus syndrome and is similar to Godtfredsen syndrome .
Synonyms are: petrosphenoid syndrome; Negri-Jacod Syndrome; Syndrome of the middle cranial nerve group; Jacod Trias
The name refers to the first author of the first description from 1921, the French neurologist Maurice Jacod .
root cause
It is usually caused by nasopharyngeal carcinoma extending into the cavernous sinus with ophthalmoplegia , blindness, and trigeminal neuralgia .
Clinical manifestations
Clinical criteria are:
- unilateral oculomotor paralysis ,
- unilateral trochlear palsy
- unilateral abdomen palsy ,
- Unilateral optic nerve failure with amaurosis
- unilateral sensitivity disorders of the face
- unilateral paralysis of the masticatory muscles
