Jacques Denis (born May 12, 1943 in Fès , Morocco , † December 2, 2015 in Saint-Quentin , Aisne , France) was a French actor who first played in film and then mainly on theater stages or on television.

Life

Jacques Denis studied acting in Paris and took lessons from Tania Balachova. From 1965 he was able to perform on the most famous theater stages in the French capital. He was discovered by Alain Tanner , in whose film La salamandre he had a leading role with Jean-Luc Bideau . In the further 1970s he embodied non-conformist personalities in several feature films by Swiss directors Alain Tanner, Claude Goretta and Michel Soutter . In the feature film La Question (1977) by Laurent Heynemann, in which the eponymous report by Henri Alleg about his torture in an internment camp during the Algerian war , he played the main role of the tortured editor-in-chief.

In the 1980s he was an actor at the Nouveau Théâtre de Poche in Geneva . Later he continued to appear mainly on theater stages or on television in Switzerland and France in various roles.
