Jacques Grevin

Jacques Grévin (* 1538 in Clermont-en-Beauvaisis , today Clermont , Département Oise , † November 5, 1570 in Turin , Piedmont ), French playwright and poet.

Life

Grévin was born in Clermont-en-Beauvais in 1538 in modest circumstances. His uncle Pierre de Prong , who raised him after the early death of his father, sent him to Paris to study medicine in 1550, where he also became a student of the poet and humanist Pierre de Ronsard . After several stays in England he became personal physician and advisor to Princess Margaret of Savoy , at whose court in Turin he died in 1570.
