Jacques Krauss

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jacques Krauss , born as Jacques Lucien Kraus (born October 21, 1900 in Paris ; † June 8, 1957 there ) was a French film architect .

Live and act

The son of the actor Henry Krauss attended the École des Beaux-Arts in his hometown Paris from 1918 to 1923 , where he trained in painting. Subsequently, Krauss was hired as a draftsman by several film companies and assisted the film architect Lucien Aguettand . In 1933 he began working as chief architect.

His designs are important for several important pre-war productions by Julien Duvivier . They were "films of 'poetic realism' that were given a touch of melancholy through Krauss' decorations."

After Duvivier's flight to the USA in 1940, Krauss only designed buildings for films that were rarely of above-average quality. It is worth mentioning, however, productions by Claude Autant-Lara (" Irrwege des Herzens "), Richard Pottier (the revolutionary and love film In the Beginning Was Only Love, which is scandalous because of all kinds of bed and nude scenes ) and various costume fabrics (" Madame Sans-Gêne", " Casanova "," Knight of his King ").
