Jacques Sternfeld (also Jakob, born January 28, 1874 in Vienna ; † November 1, 1934 there ) was an Austrian portrait and genre painter .

After attending a community school and training as a dressmaker, Sternfeld studied from 1892 to 1900 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Siegmund L'Allemand and Kasimir Pochwalski .

Interrupting his studies in painting, he joined the army as a one-year volunteer in 1896 and was transferred to the reserve in 1899. In 1905 Sternfeld became a lieutenant in the reserve and in 1918 a captain.

Sternfeld went on numerous study trips to Bosnia, Dalmatia, Hungary and Turkey, among others. From 1900 he worked as a portrait painter of well-known personalities and genre painter in Vienna.

Sternfeld also took part in the exhibitions of the Cooperative of Fine Artists Vienna (Künstlerhaus), but his acceptance into the cooperative was rejected in 1910.

In 1913 he was elected to the board (president) of the Austrian Association of Artists. In 1914 he became a founding member of the Austrian Werkbund and member of the Viennese Heimatkunst. Sternfeld joined the newly founded art community in the Glaspalast in 1919 and became its committee member.
