Jacques Tarade

Jacques Tarade or Jacques de Tarade (* 1640 in Paris ; † January 22, 1722 in Strasbourg ) was a French military engineer who worked for Vauban , among others for the fortresses of Belfort , Hüningen , Strasbourg, Breisach , Freiburg im Breisgau and Landau in the Palatinate .

Louis XIV ennobled Tarade in January 1683 for his bravery in the defense of Charleroi and for his building work, which he also carried out in the civilian sector at the Louvre and Versailles . His knowledge of church building was useful to him. In 1713 he published a book with drawings of St. Peter's Basilica . From 1690 to 1720 he was responsible for the fortifications in Alsace .

A coat of arms epitaph for his daughter Maria Elisabeth († 1688) is in the Landau collegiate church .
