Jagüey Grande , usually simply as Jagüey (pronounced xaɣwej ) called, is a city and a municipality in the province of Matanzas in Cuba . The area is located in the southern center of the province, east of the Zapata Peninsula . The place owes its name to a large tree from the family of Ficus citrifolia , locally called Jagüey , which stood at this point.
