The name of the place through the ages

The name Jagstberg can be traced back to the geographical location of the village. Since Jagstberg is closely connected with the name of the river Jagst, the name of the village has also changed over time due to the name changes of the Jagst. Around 1228 the place was called Jagesperch , whereby perch could possibly come from the English word for settle down . In 1817 the place was then called Jaxtberg , in the meantime the names Jaghesperch , Jaghesberg and Jagesberg were also used. It is possible that when the castle was still standing, Jagstberg could also have been called Jagstburg .
