Geographical location

The castle is 350  m above sea level. NN between the rectory and school house of the high medieval Burgweiler on the northward mouth of a small left side stream to the Jagst through the Rote Klinge , about 90 meters above the river and the eponymous capital of the community on the other bank.

history

The castle was mentioned as Jagesperch in 1228 . It was built by the Lords of Jagstberg, who, according to the coat of arms, were related to the Lords of Langenburg. Possibly their gender was a branch of the gentlemen von Mulfingen, who later also named themselves after Ebersberg near Backnang. 1275 was Albert of Ebersberg the castle to the Bishop of Wurzburg to fief on which a part of the Lords of Hohenlohe-Brauneck belehnte.

In 1782 the castle was demolished due to lack of water, with the exception of the massive, square 84 foot high keep in the southwest corner , which initially withstood all demolition attempts. On June 10, 1822, it was filled with dry wood, infected and blown up by the intense heat. Some of the rubble fell on the remains of the castle, another part destroyed the community's sheep house, which was rebuilt the following year. Today only small remains of the wall testify to the former castle complex.
