The Altneufels castle ruins , also known as Alt-Neufels , include the remains of a spur castle of the type of a tower hill castle (Motte) on the extreme tip of a southern valley slope northwest of Neufels, a hamlet in the community of Neuenstein in the Hohenlohe district in Baden-Württemberg .
The foundation walls of a residential tower are still preserved from the former small moth enclosure with a flat moat facing northeast .
The castle complex probably served as a refuge and was not permanently inhabited.
