history
The castle was mentioned in 1307 and was owned by the Lords of Aschhausen . From 1422 the castle and the hamlet of Laibach were owned by the Lords of Berlichingen as a limpurgic fief . In 1471 the castle was conquered and destroyed by Count Palatine Friedrich as a robber barons nest.
In 1607 the Capler von Oedheim called Bautz acquired the manor and in 1615 passed it on to the Mainz bailiff Erhard von Muggenthal zu Krautheim, whose family came from Bavaria. From 1615 to 1629 the castle was rebuilt under Erhard von Muggenthal in the Renaissance style as a three-storey four-wing complex. In 1775 the last of Muggenthal was murdered. The property came to the Barons von Racknitz via Brandenburg in 1777 . The castle was partially demolished in the 19th century and restored from 1987 to 1988.
In the past few years Ingo Eben von Racknitz had many of the wonderful facade paintings of the castle, which fits in picturesquely into the landscape and offers a wide view of the valley, restored. Some rooms are available for the Hohenloher Kultursommer concert series .
