Jair Rosa Pinto called Jair (born March 21, 1921 in Quatis ( Rio de Janeiro ), † July 28, 2005 in Rio de Janeiro ) was a Brazilian football player .
He made his first of 39 international matches in 1940 in a 6-1 draw against Argentina, where he scored the only goal for Brazil. He became a big star at the South American Championship in 1949, where he won the title with Brazil and became the top scorer with 9 goals.
At the age of 29, he played in the national team at the 1950 World Cup in Brazil. He harmonized splendidly with the other two Brazilian stars, midfielder Zizinho and star striker Ademir . In the final, Jair stuck the leather against the post in the first half and in the beginning of the second half, Friaça took the lead in front of the 200,000 spectators in the stadium. However, the Brazilian game then stalled. The defeat to Uruguay shocked the whole nation and became one of the legends of football history as Maracanaço . After this game, the magic triangle of Jair, Zizinho and Ademir broke. Jair also ended his national team career, but came back to two missions in 1956.
In 1963, at the age of 42, Jair announced his retirement from the active football business, previously he had played for FC Santos , FC São Paulo , SE Palmeiras and AA Ponte Preta . He then coached some of his former teams.
During his time in Santos, he helped young Edson Arantes do Nascimento , later known as Pelé , get into the first team.
On July 28, 2005, Jair died of lung disease at the age of 84.
