Jaishankar Menon

Jaishankar Moothedath Menon (born August 9, 1956 in Kerala ) is an Indian computer scientist who developed RAID technology for data storage especially in backup systems at IBM .

Menon graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology in Madras with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering in 1977 and a PhD from Ohio State University . He has been with IBM in San José since 1982 , where he developed RAID technology.

He has been an IBM Fellow and Fellow of the IEEE since 2001 , receiving the W. Wallace McDowell Award in 2002. In 2006 he received the IEEE Reynold B. Johnson Information Storage Systems Award . He also received the title of IBM Master Inventor and is a member of the IBM Academy of Technology .
