Peter Spork

Peter Spork (* 1965 in Frankfurt am Main , Germany ) is a German science journalist and book author.

Live and act

Peter Spork (also Peter Spork-Frischling) studied biology, anthropology and psychology in Marburg and Hamburg. In 1995 he received his doctorate in neurobiology at the Zoological Institute in Hamburg. Since 1991 Spork has been writing popular science articles for many German-language newspapers and magazines, including Die Zeit , Geo Wissen, Bild der Wissenschaft , FAZ , Frankfurter Rundschau , Tages-Anzeiger Zurich and Süddeutsche Zeitung . Since 2018 he has published his own online magazine Erbe & Umwelt: What shapes health and personality at RiffReporter .

Since 2001 he has published a children's non-fiction book on biology and several non-fiction books for adults on the subjects of sleep research / sleep medicine, chronobiology , epigenetics and health at Rowohlt Verlag , Hanser Verlag and Deutsche Verlags-Anstalt, DVA .

His book The Second Code , published in 2009, is considered the first popular scientific work on epigenetics.

In his book Health is no coincidence , published in 2017, he calls for a redefinition of the concept of health on the basis of the latest findings in gene regulation research (especially epigenetics) and the latest knowledge about perinatal imprinting. Health is therefore a permanent process that spans generations and not the opposite or the absence of illness. In addition, Spork calls for a new biology of inheritance.

Peter Spork's books have been translated into many languages ​​including Italian, Greek, Polish, Dutch, Korean, and Russian. Spork has been the author and publisher of the Epigenetics newsletter since 2010 .
