Jají is a municipality in the municipality of Campo Elías in the state of Mérida in Venezuela in the Andes .

The municipality is located 38 km from Merida in the Andes and is connected to Mérida and La Azulita by bus. The historic city center from the colonial era, which is over 400 years old , was renovated from 1968 and re-inaugurated in 1971. The place was first founded in 1580 by Bartolomé Gil Naranjo with the name San Pedro de Jají . In 1610 García founded Varela for the second time under the name of San Miguel de Jají .
