Jake Pates (born July 30, 1998 in Eagle ) is an American snowboarder . He starts in the disciplines halfpipe and slopestyle .

Career

Pates has been taking part in FIS and World Snowboard Tour competitions since 2011 . He achieved his first podium finishes in February 2013 at the Burton European Junior Open in Laax with second place in the slopestyle and first place in the halfpipe. In February 2014 he won the US Revolution Tour in Seven Springs and Mammoth in the halfpipe. He made his debut in the Snowboard World Cup at the beginning of the 2014/15 season in Copper Mountain , which he finished in seventh place in the halfpipe. In the further course of the season he triumphed in the US Revolution Tour in Copper Mountain and in Mammoth in slopestyle, and in Mammoth he also won second place in the halfpipe. In February 2016 he won the gold medal in the halfpipe and in the slopestyle at the 2016 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer and took 20th place in the halfpipe at the X-Games Oslo 2016 . After first place in the halfpipe at the Winter Dew Tour in Breckenridge at the beginning of the 2017/18 season, he finished eighth in the halfpipe at the 2018 Winter X Games in Aspen and at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang .
