Jakob Braendlin-Näf

Jakob Braendlin-Näf (born July 18, 1775 in Richterswil , Switzerland ; † February 23, 1845 in Rapperswil SG ) was a pioneer in the Swiss cotton industry.

Life

Jakob Braendlin (also "Brändlin") was born in 1775 in Richterswil on Lake Zurich . In 1803 he became construction manager, and later operations manager, of the mechanical spinning mill in Rapperswil founded by his father-in-law Christian Näf. In 1811 he founded the Braendlin cotton spinning mill in Rapperswil and Jona with his brothers Rudolf, Johannes and Heinrich . As a talented technician, he made a significant contribution to the company's growth. In 1832 the Braendlin brothers set up the spinning mill at Uznaberg in Uznach . By 1860, the Braendlin spinning group had the second largest number of spindles in Switzerland.
