Jakob Hendrik Croeser (also: Jacob Heinrich Croeser ; born September 21, 1691 in Grave ; † January 13, 1753 in Groningen ) was a Dutch physician .

Life

Croeser was the son of the surgeon Jakob Croeser and his wife Allegonda Oomeling. After initial training in the basic sciences and the Latin language, he trained as a surgeon in Amsterdam . When he had finished his training, he returned to his hometown, where he worked for six months in the local pharmacy. In 1713 he moved to the University of Leiden , where he received his doctorate in medicine on December 10, 1716 after studying with Fredericus Deckers (1648-1720), Bernhard Siegfried Albinus , Johann Jacob Rau (1668-1719) and Herman Boerhaave .

He then worked briefly as a doctor in Grave, but soon moved to Amsterdam, where he practically worked at the local hospital. Here he came into contact with important doctors, including Frederik Ruysch (1638–1731). Soon the University of Groningen noticed him, which appointed him to succeed Theodorus Muyckens (1665–1721) as professor of anatomy and pharmaceutical science . He took this office on October 19, 1724 with the speech de hominis primo ortu . In the following year he became archiater of the province and was rector of the alma mater four times during his twenty-eight years in 1727, 1734, 1741 and 1748.

He was married to Maria de la Fontaine, widow of the preacher in Loosdrecht Pieter Heijblom.
