Jakob Keßler

Jakob Friedrich Keßler , also Kessler , (born October 15, 1872 in Siebeldingen ; † January 5, 1939 in Munich ) was a Reich lawyer , Reich judge and church president of the Evangelical Church of the Palatinate (Protestant Church) from 1930 to 1934.

Life

After graduating from high school in Landau, the son of the winemaker Johann Jakob Keßler studied law in Strasbourg, Berlin and Erlangen. Keßler entered the Bavarian civil service as a legal intern in 1896 and became a certified legal intern in 1899. In 1901 he became III. Public prosecutor in Zweibrücken. In 1904 he came to Munich as a district judge. In 1907 he was second public prosecutor in Würzburg and in 1910 transferred to Munich II. In 1914 he was promoted to the district judge. During the First World War he worked in the civil administration in Poland. In 1919 he was promoted to the higher regional judge and in 1920 he became regional court director in Neuburg an der Donau and in 1921 in Munich I. In 1921 he worked as a laborer for the Reich Attorney General and in the same year he became Reich Attorney. In 1927 he became a Reich judge and worked in the 1st Criminal Senate .

In 1930 he became president of the regional church in the Palatinate. In 1933, as church president, he was increasingly irritated by the influence of the NSDAP, but did not evade the process of harmonization . In 1933 he was a participant in the National Synod in Wittenberg. In 1934 he had to retire “for health reasons”. He had an honorary doctorate as Dr. theol.

The presiding judge at the Federal Court of Justice Heinrich Keßler (1906-1994) was his son.
