Jakob Teitel

Yaakov Teitel ( Yaakov Teitel ; * 1972 in Florida , USA ) is an Israeli IT technician American origin, from hatred of Arabs , left , homosexuals a series of sometimes fatal, police and missionary Christians in Israel terrorist attacks perpetrated . The Israeli judiciary sentenced him on April 9, 2013 to twice life imprisonment and another 30 years in prison.

Life

Teitel is the son of the US military dentist Mordehai (Mark) and the medical worker Devorah (Dianne) Teitel, ultra-Orthodox Jews from the USA.

In the 1980s the family moved to Norfolk , Virginia ; Teitel later earned a bachelor's degree in psychology . In the 1990s he traveled regularly to Israel and showed solidarity with the Israeli settler movement in the West Bank .

In August 1997 he was arrested on suspicion of shooting the Palestinian shepherd Isa Machmara near the Carmel settlement . In the absence of evidence, he was released and returned to the United States. Six years after the murder, the Machmara case was initially closed without the killer being found. Teitel was later also blamed for the 1997 murder of a Palestinian taxi driver in East Jerusalem .

Teitel attended computer courses in the USA and also worked in the IT sector.

In 1999 he returned to Israel and settled in the Schwut Rachel settlement in the north of the West Bank. His official immigration took place in December 2000. His family followed a year later: his parents and younger sister also immigrated to Israel and settled in the ultra-Orthodox city of Betar Illit .

In 2002 he met Rivka Pepperman, a dance teacher from Manchester , and married her in 2003. The marriage has so far had four children. In rage Rachel, he and his family were viewed as outsiders; he himself appeared introverted, learned hardly any Hebrew, and he and his family rarely left the apartment. He never visited the local synagogue regularly.

In 2006, in protest against police protection for a gay parade, he is said to have attached a bomb to an Israeli police station .

On September 25, 2008, the political scientist and Peace Now co- founder Zeev Sternhell was assassinated, in which Teitel was obviously involved. Together with the pipe bomb, the left-wing intellectual Sternhell left a piece of paper on which a bounty of 200,000 shekels (around 36,000 euros) was offered for the murder of peace activists.

According to Teitel, the State of Israel u. a. to blame for the "liberation of hundreds of Palestinians", Israel had enabled and encouraged their return so that they "harm our children" and had "opened up artificial insemination", which is the cause of "25,000 Jewish babies being murdered every year" .

At the beginning of 2009, a package bomb exploded in the hands of a 15-year-old messianic Jewish boy who lives in the neighboring settlement of Ariel and is still struggling with the consequences of the attack. During interrogation with the investigating officers, Teitel declared without remorse: "I would do it again."

At the beginning of August 2009, a man dressed in black and masked in the center of Tel Aviv broke into a youth center for gays and lesbians, shot wildly, killing 16-year-old Liz Trubeshi from Holon and 26-year-old Nir Katz from Givatayim ; ten other people were injured, some seriously. Teitel was involved in the attack, but not the person who fired the shots, although he claims to have shot himself, against which there are many indications.

Teitel was arrested on October 7, 2009 in Jerusalem . In November 2009 a case against him for numerous crimes was opened. The defense was funded by Honenu , an organization that supports defendants charged with crimes against Arabs or the Israeli state. The Honenu founder Shmuel Meidad said that Teitel was sick, but not as sick as the state.

Teitel was found guilty of double murders and a variety of other crimes by the Jerusalem District Court on January 16, 2013. On April 9, 2013, the Jerusalem District Court set the sentence to twice life imprisonment and an additional 30 years in prison.
