Jakob Waldstein

Jakob Waldstein (* 1810 in Dörzbach ; † September 21, 1876 in Vienna ) was a German inventor , optician and entrepreneur who lived in Germany and Austria . He was of Jewish faith.

Life

From his first marriage with Cäcilie Gutmann († 1842 in Vienna) come the sons Max , the later writer Ludwig (1836-1919) and Simon , whose son Otto (1878-1936) was president of the Austrian opticians' association and in 1932 with Wilhelm-Exner -Medal was awarded.

The second marriage to Babette Leidesdorf in Vienna in 1843 comes from the daughter Antonia Passauer (1844–1926) with Dr. med. Moritz Passauer was married, and their foundation was transferred to today's IKG during National Socialism .

Entrepreneur

Since 1838 at the latest, he and his father Arnold Waldstein (1787–1853) ran an “Oculistic Glasses Institute” at Maximiliansplatz 2 (Dultplatz) in Munich , with buyers being issued a written guarantee for several years. In 1844, with the support of the Wiener Porzellanmanufaktur in Vienna , he founded a glassworks for optical glass in Ottakring, which existed until around 1865.

Customers

Around 1838 his customers included Martin Münz , Karl Wilhelm Stark (1787–1845), Philipp Franz von Walther and Burkhard Wilhelm Seiler .

exhibition

On the occasion of the trade exhibition in Vienna in 1845, Waldstein presented six crown and twelve flint glass lenses . He was recognized for his efforts to spread and improve glasses.
