Jakob Zech
Jakob Zech , also called Jacob Zech , Czech , Gähen or Jakub Čech , also called Jakob der Böhme († 1540 in Prague ) was a Bohemian watchmaker .
Life
Zech lived in Prague in the first half of the 16th century. There he was the royal clockmaker for Queen Anna and at the same time responsible for the maintenance of the Prague city hall clock . He carried out the maintenance together with Jan Růže (Hanuš), who could possibly even be his father. For this work he received the house "with the three knights" in the old town of Prague from the Prague city council in 1515 .
His son-in-law Hans Steinmeisel was also an important Prague watchmaker.
Jakob Zech died in Prague in 1540.
Services
A total of four drum-shaped table clocks by Jakob Zech are known. These clocks are the oldest spring-loaded clocks that are signed with the names of the masters and the place and time of manufacture.
- 1525 - His first table clock bears the engraved coat of arms of the Polish King Sigismund I and his wife, Queen Bona Sforza . The same coats of arms are also engraved on the pointer. Location: London Society for Antiquities
- 1525 - The second clock is not completely preserved. Location: City Museum in Prague
- 1527 - The third clock has a simpler design and has an additional alarm clock. Location: Mathematisch-Physikalischer Salon Dresden
- 1528 - The fourth clock shows the engraved coats of arms of Bohemian and Polish nobles. Location: Kunstgewerbemuseum Berlin
In 1534 he received a payment of 44 ducats for five clocks (presumably neck clocks) that he had made for Queen Anna.
