Jakob Zellweger-Hünerwadel

Jakob Zellweger (* 1. September 1805 in Trogen , † 12. July 1873 ibid; heimatberechtigt in Trogen) was a Swiss physician , counselor, community Captain , state governor, bailiff , Diet Envoy and Supreme Court President from the canton of Appenzell Outer Rhodes .

Life

Johann Jakob Zuberbühler was a son of Jacob Zellweger and a brother of Salomon Zellweger and Ulrich Zellweger. In 1834 he married Sophie Hünerwadel, daughter of Marx Rudolf Hünerwadel, owner of an India factory and a cantonal councilor . From 1817 he attended school in Zurich . This was followed by medical studies in Zurich and Heidelberg . In 1826 he obtained a doctorate in medicine . He trained in Paris , Liège , Ghent and Munich . From 1827 he had a doctor's practice in Trogen. Known as a surgeon and ophthalmologist , he ran a private hospital. From 1829 to 1832 he was councilor in Trogen, from 1832 to 1833 municipal governor and from 1829 to 1833 cantonal interrogator. From 1833 to 1839 he served as state governor, from 1839 to 1848 as a bailiff and Diet Messenger . In 1858 he held the office of actuary of the audit council and from 1859 to 1872 that of the president of the higher court. He was a liberal-conservative opponent of the Federal Constitution of 1848. He acted as a patron of the canton school and in 1827 was a co-founder of the Society of Appenzell Doctors and a member of philanthropic societies.
