St. James Church in Marchaney

The Jakobuskirche in the Marchaney district of the city of Tirschenreuth ( Upper Palatinate ) is a baroque rotunda .

The church was built in 1733 by Philipp Muttone based on the model of the Dreifaltigkeitskirche Kappel near Waldsassen . The crossing church with a low dome has a cruciform floor plan with flat semi-arches attached so that it resembles a heart. The intersection of the longitudinal and transverse axes forms the center of the church. There the ceiling arches upwards. There is a lantern on the roof .

In a fire in 1915, the roof and organ as well as the original paintings by the Tachau painter Elias Dollhopf fell victim to the flames. In 1946 the ceiling painting over the altar was renewed and in 1957 the frescoes of the dome and the lantern were restored.

The church is on one of the Way of St. James .
