Jakub Uchański (* 1502 in Uchanie ; † April 5, 1581 in Łowicz ) was secretary and administrator of the goods of the Polish Queen Bona , from 1551 Bishop of Chełm , from 1561 (or 1557) Bishop of Kujawien , from 1562 Archbishop of Gniezno and from 1562 Primate of Poland . He was in favor of an agreement with the Protestants in the Kingdom of Poland . Because of his attitude to Protestantism, he was even accused of heresy by Pope Paul IV and not confirmed in his office. During the two Interregna in his tenure he was Interrex .

meaning

It is not known which bishop consecrated it. For a long time he was considered the "progenitor" of some of the bishops of the Roman Catholic Church living today (especially in the Polish episcopate ) who sought their roots of succession in him. Uchański was also of great importance to the Roman Catholic Church . However, it has recently become known that Jakub Uchański never belonged to this succession line. The provisional state is that it can be traced to a bishop Claudio Rangoni , who was installed as papal nuncio in Poland from 1598 to 1607 and belongs to the Rebiba line.

An important representative of the Uchanski succession line is Pope Pius XI.
