Jambes is a district of the Walloon capital Namur in Belgium on the right bank of the Meuse .

history

In the Middle Ages and the early modern period, Jambes belonged to the Principality of Liège and was an independent city until the merger of Belgian communities in 1977. The bridge from Jambes to Namur, a landmark of the place, is located on one of the oldest crossings of the Meuse. There is documentary evidence of a bridge there since 1183, but tradition claims that such a bridge has existed since the 2nd century BC. A previous building was destroyed in a flood in 1175.
