Neolygus contaminatus ( Syn .: Lygocoris contaminatus ) is a type of bug from the family of soft bugs (Miridae).

features

The bugs are 5.6 to 6.9 millimeters long. The species of the genus Neolygus are green and have an oval body, which is, however, less wide than that of Apolygus species. The spurs of the rails ( tibia ) are brown and arise from black points. The second antennae is longer than the pronotum is wide at the base. Neolygus contaminatus can be distinguished from the other species of the genus by the completely green clavus of the Hemielytren and the long antennae. Your second antennae is completely pale.

Occurrence and habitat

The species is common in Europe, including the western Mediterranean, east to China and also in North America. In Germany it is widespread and is usually common from the lowlands to the higher low mountain ranges. In Austria it is only found sporadically, especially in the middle altitudes. Sunny forest edges and isolated trees are mainly populated. The species avoids shady places.

Way of life

The bugs live mainly on birches ( Betula ), more rarely on other deciduous trees such as alder ( Alnus ), willow ( Salix ), hazelnut ( Corylus ), buckthorn ( Rhamnus ) or whitebeam ( Sorbus ). They suckle on the reproductive organs of plants, which is why they are only found on fertile plants. The overwintering takes place as an egg. The nymphs appear from April, the adult bugs from mid-June to September, sometimes even October. The females lay their eggs mainly in July and August on the immature male and female kittens of the birch trees, from which the nymphs only hatch after the winter.
