James Avalon

James Avalon , actually Kent Smith , other pseudonyms: Kunga Sludge , Mondo Tundra and Monty Tundra (born before 1957) is an American porn film director and producer . He is best known for the multi-award-winning film Les Vampyres from 2000 and the two-time award-winning film Taboo 2001 , a science fiction porn film from 2001.

Life

Avalon was of Mormon faith and, as a young man, spent two years as a missionary in France for this denomination . While studying at Brigham Young University , he said he developed into an atheist at the age of 21. He finished his studies with degrees in film, theater directing and photography.

In 1978 he moved to Los Angeles , where he did more than well as a photographer. Through a friend he came to Knight Publications , where he worked as an editor for the adult film magazine Adam Film World from 1980 to 1986 . He developed several periodically appearing, successful special issues for the publisher and also wrote for other men's magazines such as Hustler , Velvet , Club and Chic or conducted interviews for them. At Pocket Books he published the book Adult Movies as Kent Smith in 1982 , which contained reviews of selected porn films and short portraits of their stars.

In 1986 he met the director Gregory Dark , for whom he worked as a film editor for ten years . In 1996 he switched to the porn film producer Metro on the condition that he could also direct there. Since then, he has directed, produced and scripted over 50 films. In 2001 he received the AVN Award for best director for his film Les Vampyres . In 2003 he was inducted into the XRCO Hall of Fame . Avalon is now making his films for the production company Red Light District Video .

In addition to his work in the film industry, Avalon writes science fiction novels, one of which, Future X , was published in 1990 under his real name, Kent Smith. Another hobby of Avalon is climbing.
