James B. Carrell

James Baldwin Carrell (* 1940 ) is a mathematician .

Live and act

James Carrell received his Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 1967. PhD . Carl B. Allendoerfer was his doctoral supervisor . Around 1970 he worked in the math department at Purdue University in Lafayette , Indiana . In 1971 he and Jean Dieudonné received the Leroy P. Steele Prize for the work Invariant theory, old and new . From 1973 to 2005 he was a mathematics professor at the University of British Columbia , Vancouver. Then he retired .

Carrell's research areas are algebraic transformation groups , algebraic geometry and Lie theory .

He is a fellow of the American Mathematical Society .
