James D. Weaver

James Dorman Weaver (born September 27, 1920 in Erie , Pennsylvania , †  November 15, 2003 in Sterling , Virginia ) was an American politician . Between 1963 and 1965 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

James Weaver attended public schools in his homeland and then from 1938 to 1941 the Erie Conservatory of Music and Syracuse University in New York State . In his youth he worked on farms and played as a musician in various orchestras. After studying medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and his admission as a doctor, he served from 1946 as a captain in the medical service of the US Army . He was stationed in Korea in 1947 and 1948 . From 1948 to 1962 he practiced as a private medic in his hometown of Erie. In 1961 he was a member of a presidential commission on aging issues ( White House Conference on Aging ). From 1960 to 1962 he worked for the Pennsylvania Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation .

Politically, Weaver joined the Republican Party . In the 1962 congressional elections , he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 24th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Carroll D. Kearns on January 3, 1963 . Since he was not confirmed in 1964, he could only complete one term in Congress until January 3, 1965 . This was shaped by the events of the civil rights movement . In addition, the Vietnam War began at that time .

After the assassination of John F. Kennedy , James Weaver was a medical advisor to the Warren Commission investigating the president's death . After his time in the US House of Representatives, he served in the US Air Force between 1965 and 1963 , where he rose to the rank of colonel. He died in Sterling on September 15, 2003 and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
