James Duncan Davidson

James Duncan Davidson (born July 29, 1970 in Lubbock , Texas ) is an American software developer who developed the Tomcat web server and the Ant utility program written in Java .

Davidson grew up in Oklahoma and Texas . He was with Sun Microsystems from 1997 to 2001 . During this time he also wrote the above programs. He is currently self-employed as a software consultant and photographer. He lives in Portland , Oregon .

In the last few years (2005–2006), Davidson shifted his programming focus to Ruby on Rails . Together with well-known Rails guru Mike Clark, Davidson developed some of the most complex and robust early Rails applications. Today Davidson works on Wunderlist for Microsoft in Berlin .
