Wunderlist was a free online service for managing tasks and notes . The service went online in November 2010 and was available in over 20 languages. With five million users and 13.5 million lists created, it was the most popular GTD application for Apple iOS , and in June 2011 it was the iPhone app of the week in 104 countries. Wunderlist was developed by 6Wunderkinder based in Berlin , in which Atomico, e42 GmbH, T-Venture and the High-Tech Gründerfonds were involved.

Functions

  • The whole purpose of the Wunderlist application was to maintain a list of open items .
  • Entries can be sorted hierarchically, alphabetically or by date. Memories are possible.
  • Tasks are provided with a description in text form , images can be attached from version 3.
  • Wunderlist compares all entered data on the devices on which a user is registered.
  • With the integration of Open Graph and local address books, friends can be invited to take part in a task.

history

In 2009 Christian Reber called on XING colleagues to develop a new to-do app. Frank Thelen answered and together Reber and Thelen developed the idea of the Wunderlist task management. The required start-up capital was provided by the High-Tech Gründerfonds and e42 GmbH in the amount of EUR 500,000.

The first version of Wunderlist was published in autumn 2010. The program was initially only available for the Windows , Linux and macOS operating systems. The app was only released for the iPhone in December 2011 . Subsequently, in February 2011, the developers released a variant for the iPad called Wunderlist HD .

In September 2012, the developers announced that they would discontinue the online service Wunderkit and instead want to publish a new version of Wunderlist. This was finally released on December 18, 2012 under the name Wunderlist 2 . The most significant change compared to the predecessor was the provision of native apps , which could be better adapted to the Android, iOS and Windows Phone operating systems . In addition, a so-called activity center was introduced, in which all activities and messages of the user are summarized.

In 2013, the Berlin startup was able to win a major US investor in Sequoia Capital .

At the beginning of June 2015, 6Wunderkinder and thus Wunderlist was bought by Microsoft for an amount between 100 million and 200 million US dollars .

In 2017, Microsoft announced that it would permanently discontinue Wunderlist and replace it with its own "To Do" service. In December 2019, May 6, 2020 was given as the date.

On May 5th, 2020 it was announced that Christian Reber, as an investor, is driving the development of a Wunderlist successor, the to-do list app Superlist .

As of May 6, 2020, Wunderlist is no longer available.

Wonder kit

In January 2012 the first beta version of Wunderkit was released, which was a modification of Wunderlist. The online service was designed to synchronize the tasks of several people in the form of projects, similar to classic project management software . Registration was possible via Facebook , Twitter or registration. In February 2012, apps for accessing Wunderkit from mobile devices were released.

Wunderkit's basic functionality was free. In addition, there was a so-called pro tariff, which, for example, enabled improved support and joint billing for several users for 4.99 US dollars . After persistent criticism of the fee requirement, it was decided in February 2012 to make all the functions of Wunderkit available in the final version free of charge. In the same year it was decided to completely discontinue the Wunderkit.

criticism

The framework Titanium was used to develop the first version of Wunderlist . Although this ensured a uniform range of functions on all operating systems, its use led to problems. For example, the Wunderlist iPhone app had many bugs and crashed frequently.
