James Dunlop (born May 17, 1870 in Paisley , † January 11, 1892 ) was a Scottish football player who played for FC St. Mirren and the Scottish national football team.

Career and life

Born in the Scottish town of Paisley in 1870, Dunlop began his career with the Underwood Strollers . In 1888 the winger joined the city's largest club, FC St. Mirren . On August 23, 1890, he completed his first competitive game for the Saints against FC Renton . In 1890 Dunlop completed an international match for the Scottish national team against Wales . During a league game of the 1891/92 season on New Year's Day 1892 against FC Abercorn , Dunlop fell on a piece of glass, causing tetanus to set in and he died ten days later at the age of 22. In his hometown, the still existing monument in Woodside Cemetery was erected for him in his honor.
