James Farrow

James Farrow (born April 3, 1827 in Laurens , South Carolina , † July 3, 1892 in Spartanburg , South Carolina) was an American lawyer and worked for both the United States and the Confederate States as a politician .

Career

James Farrow, son of Jane Strather James (1796-1880) and Patillo Farrow (1796-1849), was born in 1827 in Laurens County . Nothing more is known about his youth. Farrow studied law and was admitted to the bar. He worked as a prosecutor in Spartanburg. Between 1856 and 1862 he was a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives . On November 6, 1861 he was elected to the First Confederate Congress in the fifth constituency of South Carolina , where he took up his post on February 18, 1862. He was then re-elected to the Second Confederate Congress , where he served until 1865. In November 1865 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in the fourth electoral district of South Carolina , but could not take his seat in Congress because in December 1865 it was stripped from him. He later moved to Kansas City , where he was elected a judge. Farrow returned to South Carolina. He was president of Laurens Female College before resuming his practice as a lawyer. After his death in 1892 he was buried in the town cemetery in Laurens. He also probably pursued a military career in his life. He held the rank of colonel .

Farrow was married twice. He married Caroline P. Henry († 1858) in 1850. The couple had at least one child: Florence. After the death of his first wife, he married Susan Savage (1840-1918), daughter of George and MR Savage, in 1868. The couple had at least two children: Perrin and Sue.
