James Goold, Baron Goold

James Duncan Goold, Baron Goold (born May 28, 1934 - July 27, 1997 in Glasgow ) was a Scottish accountant, entrepreneur and life peer .

Life

Goold spent his school days at the Glasgow Academy , after which he trained as an auditor . In this profession he worked from 1958 to 1960 at WEC Reid & Co. before joining Price Waterhouse Ltd. for a short period in 1960 . worked in Australia . In 1961 he finally went to the Scottish construction company Mactaggart & Mickel as secretary , to which he would remain associated for the rest of his life. From 1965 he was director there and from 1993 he was chairman of the company.

Goold took over the chairmanship of the Scottish Building Contractors Association in 1971 and became chairman of the Scottish Building Employers' Federation in 1977 . In 1981 he became head of the CBI Employers' Association in Scotland, an office which he held until 1983. In 1983 he was beaten to a Knight Bachelor , 1985 he was Debuty Lieutenant in County Renfrew and 1994 even Lord Lieutenant in Renfrewshire .

Goold was politically involved in the Scottish Conservative Party . From 1978 to 1995 he was Association Honorary President ( Association Honorary President ) in his home district of Eastwood , from 1981 to 1983 he was the Party's Honorary Treasurer in Scotland and finally from 1983 to 1990 chairman of the Scottish Conservative Party .

In addition, Goold showed extensive social commitment. From 1991 to 1993 he was chairman of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra , from 1993 chairman of the court at the University of Strathclyde and in 1994 president of a hospice in Paisley . In April 1987 he was promoted to the status of a Life Peer. He has since officially held the title of Baron Goold, of Waterfoot in the District of Eastwood and took a seat in the House of Lords .
