James Hogan (businessman)

James Reginald Hogan AO (born November 28, 1956 ) is an Australian businessman.

Early life and career

James Hogan grew up in Melbourne , Victoria , and was a student at Ivanhoe Grammar School, where he graduated in 1975.

James Hogan started his career at Ansett Airlines in 1975 as a regular employee. Other positions followed at British Midland Airways , The Hertz Corporation , Forte Hotels and Gulf Air .

In 2001, Hogan moved back to Australia, where he was installed as CEO of the Tesna consortium. This in turn was founded with the aim of taking over the management of the insolvent Ansett Airlines . In 2002 he moved again to Gulf Air , where he was CEO for four years.

On September 10, 2006, James Hogan was appointed President and CEO of Etihad Airways , which is the flag carrier of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi . He was considered to be responsible for the strong growth of Etihad Airways in the following years, which was able to expand its route network, passenger and air freight destinations in the Middle East , Africa , Europe , Asia , Australia and America .

During his time as CEO, Etihad Airways invested in the airlines Air Berlin (29.21%), Air Seychelles (40%), Aer Lingus (2.987%), Virgin Australia (24.9%), Air Serbia (49%), Darwin Airline (33%), Jet Airways (24%) and Alitalia (49%). While the smaller airlines were successful with the partnership, Air Berlin and Alitalia continue to cause high losses afterwards.

Originally, James Hogan was to leave the chair with CFO James Rigney in the second half of 2017. At the beginning of May he had to give up the chairmanship immediately. He left the airline at the end of June and is now CEO of the Swiss company Knighthood Capital .
