history

Business class on board a Jet Airways Boeing 777-300ER

Jet Airways was founded on April 1, 1992 by billionaire and current Chairman of the Board Naresh Goyal . Flight operations began on May 5, 1993 with four Boeing 737-300s . Jet Airways also owns the low-cost airline JetKonnect , into which the other subsidiary JetLite was integrated in 2012.

In mid-2012, it became known that Jet Airways had submitted an application to the Indian government for approval to join the Star Alliance , but at the same time Jet Airways was also in negotiations with the SkyTeam and oneworld alliances .

In October 2013, the Indian government approved a 24 percent stake in Jet Airways by Etihad Airways from Abu Dhabi ; the purchase price is said to have been 20.6 billion rupees (about 246 million euros ).

After a quarterly loss of 28 million euros in the first quarter of 2014 and because of the new competitor Vistara , Jet Airways announced that from December 1, 2014, a full service will also be included in the ticket price in the economy. By the end of 2014, all aircraft should have a two-class configuration.

Jet Airways ceased operations effective April 18, 2019 due to insolvency. Jet Airways planned to resume operations in 2019 after being sold to a new majority shareholder.

Destinations

Jet Airways flew to destinations in India. From the 2nd half of 2007 to March 2016, Jet Airways used Brussels-Zaventem Airport with up to ten flights per day as a European aviation hub on flights to India and North America . From March 2016, instead of Brussels, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol will be served , while KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Delta Air Lines have become new codeshare partners. The company's international flights were completely suspended in April 2019 because the airline could no longer raise the funds it needed.

Codeshare The company has codeshare agreements with the following airlines (members of Etihad Airways Partners are marked with *):
