James Mann Williamson (1849-1901)

James Mann Williamson (born December 25, 1849 in South Shields ; died November 12, 1901 in Ventnor ) was a British physician .

Life

James Mann Williamson was the son of doctor James Williamson . From the age of 13 he attended Edinburgh High School . He studied medicine at London University . In 1872 he received his first medical degree as a "Bachelor of Medicine" and received the CM at Edinburgh University . There he studied with Joseph Lister , James Spence (1812-1882) and Sir Alexander Russell Simpson (1835-1916). In 1875 he earned his M. D . He became a doctor at the Royal National Hospital in Ventnor. He was a member of the Clinical and Pathological Societies of London. In 1882 he married Janet Eliza Bruce , daughter of William Bruce DD and niece of the poet and preacher Robertson of Irvine . He had three children Hilda, Janet and James Bruce (1892–1979). His patients included the young Winston Churchill , Karl Marx and others.

Karl Marx, who spent his last vacation on the Isle of Wight in Ventnor (October 30, 1882 to January 12, 1883), was treated by him. Two letters to Marx from Williamson and a dedication from Karl Marx to Janet Eliza Williamson on a photograph by Marx have survived.
