James McDevitt Magee

James McDevitt Magee (born April 5, 1877 near Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania , †  April 16, 1949 there ) was an American politician . Between 1923 and 1927 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

James Magee attended the public schools of his home country and then studied at Yale University until 1899 . After a subsequent law degree at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and his admission to the bar in 1903, he began to work in this profession in Pittsburgh. During the First World War he served in the US Army Air Corps . He rose to the rank of captain. He was later a Lt. Col. in the United States Army Air Service . Politically, he joined the Republican Party .

In the 1922 congressional elections , Magee was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the newly established 35th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he took office on March 4, 1923. After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1927 . In 1926 he was no longer nominated for re-election by his party. After serving in the US House of Representatives, Magee returned to practice as a lawyer. Between 1931 and 1935 he headed his state's security commission ( Pennsylvania Securities Commission ). He died on April 16, 1949 in Pittsburgh, where he was also buried.
