Harry Allison Estep

Harry Allison Estep (born February 1, 1884 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania , †  February 28, 1968 there ) was an American politician . Between 1927 and 1933 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Harry Estep attended the public schools in Marion ( Indiana ) and then studied at Purdue University in West Lafayette . After a subsequent law degree at the University of Pittsburgh and his admission to the bar in 1914, he began to work in this profession in Pittsburgh. Between 1917 and 1927 he was the assistant district attorney in Allegheny County . Politically, he joined the Republican Party .

In the 1926 congressional election , Estep was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 35th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded James McDevitt Magee on March 4, 1927 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1933 . From the end of 1929 these were shaped by the events of the Great Depression.

In 1932, Harry Estep was not re-elected. After his time in the US House of Representatives he practiced as a lawyer again until 1964. After that, he retired. He died on February 28, 1968 in Oakland, a borough of Pittsburgh, and was buried in the local Allegheny Cemetery .
