James Warren Moore (born February 20, 1935 in Erie , Pennsylvania ) is a former American Army officer and pentathlete .
Career
Moore took part in the Olympic Games in 1964 in Tokyo and 1968 in Mexico City in part. In 1964 he finished sixth in the individual and won the silver medal in the team competition together with David Kirkwood and Paul Pesthy . At the 1968 Olympic Games, he narrowly missed winning a medal. In the individual, he did not get past eleventh place this time, while he finished fourth with the team .
At world championships he achieved his only podium finish in 1963 with the bronze medal in the team competition. In 1963, 1964 and 1968 he was American champion.
Moore was a soldier in the United States Army and fought with it in Vietnam , where he received the Bronze Star four times . He resigned from service with the rank of colonel in 1982 and later worked as a teacher at a Christian school.
