action

The young Lord Robin of Loxley gets to know and love the beautiful Marian when she tries to steal a horse from his stables for a penniless farmer in order to help him. Marian reciprocates his feelings and the two spend a carefree time together when Robin is drafted into the English army to fight for his faith in the Crusades. Marian promises that she will wait for him.

Four years later, Robin is still fighting in Arabia and is utterly disgusted by the numerous atrocities of the war on both sides. When Arab prisoners of war are executed in a row in the Christian camp, he intervenes to save the son of a man, which he fails; only the father manages to escape. Robin escapes death only because of his noble descent and is sent back to England. There he finds out that his lands have been confiscated. He turns to Friar Tuck, who tells him that he was pronounced dead by the Sheriff of Nottingham two years ago and that after Robin's homestead was confiscated, Marian had to go to the Nottingham mines. Robin rushes to where he sees Marian, but shows up with another man than the man whose son was murdered. He followed him to seek revenge with Robin for the death of his son because he is the only one to have shown such an act during the entire war. After some suspicion, Robin decides to trust the man who calls himself John, who submits a plan to deprive the sheriff of the financial means for his power. One-armed John teaches Robin numerous tricks and provides him with suitable weapons and clothing. In addition, Marian should not be told that Robin steals at night and that he is good with the sheriff during the day in order to get behind his plans and not attract attention.

In fact, Robin quickly gains the sheriff's trust through generous donations and voluntary tax payments while he distributes the stolen money to the battered people. However, when he tries to break into the treasury with John, he gets enough attention that the bishop of Rome wants to come to Nottingham to check on the war chest. At a costume ball, Robin notices that Marian and Tuck are apparently also planning something. He denigrates Tuck and also wins the trust of the bishop and is privy to his plans: He and the sheriff support the Arabs so that the war does not end and they benefit financially by being able to extort supposed money from the people for the war. Meanwhile, Marian stole incriminating documents that her companion Will Scarlet would rather not have played out in order to alleviate the suffering of the people through peaceful negotiations with the sheriff. At that moment the mines are attacked: The sheriff wants to plunder them to compensate for the stolen funds and has all those resisting killed. Robin and John are late to warn the residents. They manage to save Marian, whereupon she realizes who is Robin Hood. To save Robin, John rushes towards the attackers and is captured. In the emerging conflict of the people over whether to flee or fight, Robin and Will join forces as they fight for the same cause. They want to steal the money before it is removed while it is being blessed. This succeeds, but when the injured Will does not appear, Robin returns to look for him. Faced with the violence that reminds him of the Crusades, Robin offers to be arrested to end the killing. John, who has escaped from the dungeon and disguised himself, mixes with the guard who brings him in front of the sheriff. While the surprised but composed Sheriff tells Robin what he is going to do with him now, John intervenes and not only frees Robin, but also gets his revenge, as his face is the last thing the Sheriff sees alive.

Together with the people, Robin, Marian, Tuck and John decide to retreat to the woods of Sherwood to live there as outlaws. Will, who survived the battle with a burn wound, comes to terms with the bishop and becomes the new sheriff. His first measure should be to catch Robin Hood, who shows that he knows about it through a targeted shot at his own profile.

reception

Reviews

Birgit Roschy of epd film says it lacks the movie in any kind of consistency, and the Assassin's Creed -Actiongetöse with the crossbow as a rapid-fire gun over Hurt Locker -hafte war scenes, the anti-fascist and streetfighter attitude of hip hood wearer The Hood up to superhero Batman and dystopian The Hunger Games, everything is on offer. The anachronistic mish-mash of scenery of a “modern Middle Ages” between half-timbered houses, urban canyons and Victorian-style mines and slums is also annoying, continues Roschy: “This nonsense, which is as committed as it is haphazard, lacks involuntary comedy.”

Gross profit

The film played at an estimated budget of 100 million US dollars , only 85.7 million again.
