James Russell Leech

James Russell Leech (born November 19, 1888 in Ebensburg , Cambria County , Pennsylvania , †  February 5, 1952 in Chevy Chase , Maryland ) was an American politician . Between 1927 and 1932 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

James Leech attended the public schools in his home country and the high schools there and the Mercersburg Academy . In 1911 he graduated from Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, Pennsylvania. After a subsequent law degree at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and his admission to the bar in 1915, he began to work in this profession in Ebensburg. During World War I , he served as a lieutenant in the United States Army between 1917 and 1919 . Politically, he joined the Republican Party .

In the 1926 congressional elections , Leech was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 20th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Anderson Howell Walters on March 4, 1927 . After two re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his resignation on January 29, 1932 . Since 1929, the work of the US House of Representatives has also been shaped by the events of the Great Depression.

James Leech's resignation came after his appointment as a judge at the federal tax court . He held this office in Chevy Chase until his death on February 5, 1952 and was buried in his hometown of Ebensburg.
