Charles James Spencer-Churchill, 12th Duke of Marlborough (born November 24, 1955 in Blenheim Palace near Woodstock ) is a British peer .

Life

He is the second-born and oldest surviving son of John Spencer-Churchill, 11th Duke of Marlborough from his first marriage to Susan Mary Hornby. As his father's apparent marriage , he carried the courtesy title Earl of Sunderland from birth and from 1972 the courtesy title Marquess of Blandford .

He attended Harrow School in London and the Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester . He worked as marketing director for the vehicle tuning company Brodie Brittain Racing in Brackley . In 1996 he was the organizer of hospitality services for the Benetton Formula 1 racing team .

In 1995 he spent a month in jail for drug abuse and counterfeiting of prescriptions . In September 2007, he was sentenced to six months in prison for three cases of dangerous driving and willful damage to property after attacking another driver's car on the street; at the same time his driving license was revoked for three and a half years.

Since his father found his way of life unacceptable and he was concerned about the preservation of the Blenheim Palace family estate , in 1994, after some sensational legal dispute, he transferred the essential family property with Blenheim Palace along with the more than 4,500 hectares of land and several commercial operations to a foundation and closed it thus based on inheritance claims on this private property. In 2012, Spencer-Churchill was reconciled with his father and, after inheriting the title of 12th Duke of Marlborough when his father died in October 2014 , he became one of the trustees of that foundation.

Marriages and offspring

His first marriage was in February 1990 with Rebecca Mary Few Brown. The marriage ended in divorce in 1998. The marriage produced a son:

On March 1, 2002, he married Edla Griffiths for the second time. This marriage has a daughter and a son:

  • Lady Araminta Clementine Megan Spencer-Churchill (* 2007);
