James Wilfrid Ryan

James Wilfrid Ryan (born October 16, 1858 in Norwegian Township , Schuylkill County , Pennsylvania , †  February 26, 1907 in Mahanoy City , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1899 and 1901 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In his youth, James Ryan moved with his parents to Mahanoy City, where he attended public schools. He then graduated from high school in Frackville . He then worked as a teacher. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1884, he began to work in this profession in Pottsville . Between 1892 and 1896 he was a district attorney . Politically, he joined the Democratic Party .

In the 1898 congressional election , Ryan was elected to the 13th  constituency of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Republican Charles N. Brumm on March 4, 1899 . Until March 3, 1901, he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . After serving in the US House of Representatives, Ryan returned to practice as a lawyer. He died on February 26, 1907 in Mahanoy City.
